You Can Vibe-Code a CRM. You Can't Vibe-Code a CRM Vendor.

Dark quote card reading: You can vibe-code a CRM. You can't vibe-code a CRM vendor. The demo wins the meeting, month three wins the year.

HubSpot's CTO and Co-founder, Dharmesh Shah says you can vibe-code your own CRM! He also still runs HubSpot.

Both things are true. The gap between them is the entire decision, and almost nobody is pricing it.

Here's what happened. During a podcast, the question came up: should anyone vibe-code their own CRM? So Joe Reis opened Claude Code and just… did it. Twenty minutes later he had a working CRM. Tables. A UI. Add a contact, log a deal, run a query. He named it Slopforce.

By every demo metric, it worked. That's the trap.

Slopforce works the way a raft works, perfectly, until the water gets deep. No lifecycle stages. No permission model. No deliverability reputation. No audit trail for the compliance review. No answer for the AE asking why the Acme deal stalled twice.

The code was never the hard part. The hard part is everything a CRM quietly remembers on your behalf after the weekend ends.

And the savings are real, right up until they aren't:

  • → One founder saved $1,800/month. Now leads "randomly disappear" and an intern maintains his entire revenue system. (Nilay Modi)
  • → Another: "Three months later, it's a Frankenstein nobody wants to touch." (Bret Larsen)
  • → It scales fine under 50 people. Past that, integrations break, leads don't get captured, deals can't be created. (Srivaradha Vanamamalai)

When you pay HubSpot or Salesforce, you're not buying software. You're buying a vendor: their SOC 2, their pen tests, their deliverability, their 3 a.m. on-call, their legal exposure when it breaks.

Delete the subscription and all of that doesn't disappear. It just becomes your team's unpaid second job.

As Konstantin Ristl put it: vibe-coding a CRM to save $100 on HubSpot is the B2B equivalent of running behind the bus.

You can build a CRM in a weekend. You cannot build a CRM vendor in a weekend. That's the part you were actually paying for.

The demo always wins the meeting. Month three always wins the year. Decide which one you're optimizing for before you delete HubSpot.
